Kitchen counters are some of the most important features in the kitchen, but few give them any real thought apart from deciding what color to paint them. While painting is indeed a great way to dress up your counters, there are other things you can do to enhance this tremendously important feature.
Choose your materials wisely.
Nowadays, there is a huge variety of materials that can be used for your countertops and many of them can do a great job of livening up the surroundings. All these materials have their advantages and disadvantages however, so it would be best to look into each option and determine whether or not it is right for you. Natural stone is one of the most popular options, and although it is very impressive looking, it is also expensive and requires periodic maintenance. There are other less costly materials that provide a similar appearance, but they may be less durable and less hygienic.
Recycle if possible.
Don’t be so quick to throw out your old kitchen counters. Unless they are made out of very cheap material or are worn beyond repair, you might be able to get some more years of services out of them. If your kitchen counters are still in halfway decent condition, you might be able to use them in your new kitchen design. This will save you a bit of money and you have the advantage of a counter that you already know will work from a design standpoint.
Compare your options.
There are so many options available in kitchen counters nowadays that it doesn’t make sense to neglect checking them out. Spend an afternoon at your local builder’s emporium and see what new stocks they have on offer. This will not only place new options under your radar, but help you find some great deals as well.
