Making the Most of Your Kitchen Space

Posted on October 1, 2019

Having a small kitchen might be unappealing for some but limited space has its advantages. When you have limited space, you learn to maximize space by minimizing clutter and only keeping those things that you actually use. However, even with limited space, storage is still a necessity and maximizing whatever available space you have to make room for all the things you keep in your kitchen is important. Sure, a tiny kitchen might seem impossible to work with at first but with some smart space optimization ideas and the right kitchen renovation goals, you should be able to maximize every bit of available space in that small kitchen of yours. Below are some great ideas for tiny kitchens that would help you make the most of your available space no matter how limited:

Make Maximum Use of Your Kitchen Walls

That extra space between your kitchen cabinets and your countertops is valuable space that you can use for storage. You can mount some storage baskets on your cabinets and keep glasses, mugs, or ingredients that you need to be readily accessible. You can also mount some wall hooks for mugs or install a magnetic strip that you can stick kitchen knives on if you don’t want to store them in drawers. You can even use that extra space above your stove and add a niche or rack for ingredients that you use on a daily basis like cooking oil, spices, salt, and pepper. This does not require major kitchen renovation so adding extra storage on your walls should be cheap and easy.

Use Corners

Corners are typically wasted space because few people make proper use of them but when you don’t have much space to spare, even corners can be valuable for your kitchen. Have your kitchen counters customized to fit in corner drawers. You can even use one corner for a kitchen sink or as a permanent location for a stand-alone kitchen stove and oven.

Downsize Your Appliances

If you live alone or there aren’t that many people living in your apartment, you might want to consider downsizing some appliances if your current ones are too large for your kitchen. A smaller fridge, dishwasher, and oven is actually much more economical especially if you can’t make maximum large appliances.

If you’re undergoing kitchen renovation in a small kitchen, you should prioritize kitchen storage above all else because it’s hard to keep a kitchen organized when you don’t have adequate storage.
