Bathroom Flooring Options: Laminate

Posted on June 12, 2019

Laminate flooring is known for being able to imitate all sorts of different flooring materials such as stone, wood, slate, etc.  It is also an easy material to work with and is cheap to install. But just like most other materials used for bathroom remodeling, there are some downsides to using laminate flooring.  The following will be a brief summary of the advantages and disadvantages of laminate flooring.

Advantages

Tough surface

Laminate flooring will never be scratched or dented. When managed properly, laminate can last a few decades.

Easy installation

Even if you have a larger than normal bathroom, you can probably install laminate flooring in one weekend. Whereas older types of laminate flooring require you to glue every piece together, newer kinds will have a simple click-lock feature. All it needs is a quick wipe with a moist sponge and the dried glue will be ready to go.

Consistency

Other surface materials for bathroom remodeling will never be consistent on the floor as a whole. A few examples of these materials would be marble, wood, and certain tiles. Laminate flooring will have uniform pieces all throughout and consistency is guaranteed.

Ideal for bathrooms

Laminate flooring resists stains and in order to clean it, simply wipe with a damp mop. It is good for places of high moisture. Just make sure you do not let water stand for too long.

Disadvantages

Imitation material

To some people, there is no real substitute for the real thing. It may look like wood, but it won’t feel like wood.

Slippage

Most kinds of laminate flooring for bathroom remodeling are slippery. There are, however, a few types that have a non-slip layer.

Repair

Probably the biggest disadvantage to laminate flooring is that if it is ever damaged, it cannot be sanded or repaired. The damaged portion will have to be replaced.
