Kitchen Remodeling Time Frame

Posted on July 22, 2019

Undergoing kitchen remodeling takes time and depending on the scope of your remodel, this can take anywhere from a week to several months. While your kitchen is undergoing renovations, you will have to look for another area where you can wash your dishes and prepare your meals. This is perhaps one of the most difficult aspects of a remodel, as your entire routine would be disrupted and your level of comfort will be affected. Of course, it will pay off in the end once you see your flooring fixed, cabinetry and countertops installed, and your appliances put in their proper places. But in the meantime, you’ll just have to deal with the inconvenience of cooking your meals in the living room or elsewhere in the house. This is why establishing a time frame, even if it’s just a rough estimate of the amount of time it will take to finish the renovation, is of absolute importance. While timeframes vary from project to project, depending on the amount and scope of work your kitchen remodeling entails, you can still get a general idea of how long it might take to accomplish your project based on the projected time frames for each individual aspect of the renovation.

Removal of Kitchen Cabinetry and Fixtures

As long as you have your contractor on the site and his team of workers, this shouldn’t take too long to accomplish but if you want a safe estimate of the time it takes to remove your existing cabinetry and kitchen fixtures, you’ll have to give it a minimum time of 1 day.

Installation of New Cabinets, Flooring, Countertops, and Other Fixtures

The installation of new cabinetry can take 2 to 10 days to accomplish, depending on the size, the number of cabinets, and the material. Flooring really depends on the material but it can take up to three weeks or even more. Countertop installation will also depend on the material but it can take anywhere from 1 to 2 weeks for laminate materials and up to five weeks for stone and solid surfaces. The sink and faucet could be accomplished within the span of a day, provided that the plumbing and electrical work has already been accomplished prior to installation. Cook top installation can also take a day and lighting can take an average of two days.

Electrical and Plumbing

If no major changes are necessary, electrical and plumbing should be accomplished in 2 to 3 days. However, it might take longer if there are major problems in your kitchen plumbing.

Painting

Painting typically requires a minimum of 2 days depending on the size of your kitchen.

Before undergoing kitchen remodeling, your contractor should be able to provide you with a detailed time frame. However, you should still prepare for unforeseen delays just in case.
