Kitchen Renovations Checklist

Posted on January 23, 2019

Kitchen renovations can be nightmare, especially if this is your first time to undertake such a task. There are numerous details to deal with, each of them crucial to the success of the project. Here’s a quick checklist of things to remember if you are planning to redo your kitchen.

Use the best materials you can afford

They may cost more at the outset, but high-quality materials will pay off in the long run in terms of dependable performance and reliability. You will want to wok within your budget of course, but strive for the highest quality possible.

Figure out the height of your cabinets

In most cases, cabinets should extend all the way to the ceiling. This will prevent the accumulation of dust in the top area which you probably won’t use anyway. This will also leave more space on the bottom–which you can reach easily–for open shelves and wall hooks.

Decide on paint or stain

Staining your wood cabinets might seem like the better option for convenience and durability, but they are difficult to re-stain and tend to look dated. For most kitchen renovations, paint might be a more flexible option.

Pick out a nice countertop

The countertop can serve both as a focal point and an underlying element that ties everything together, so give it plenty of thought. Marble is traditionally the most popular option, but there are many other options in natural and cultured stone and other alternative materials.

Make plans for an island

If you have enough space for it, installing an island is a great idea. Just make sure that it actually enhances the flow of the kitchen and makes working in it more efficient. The last thing you want is a bulky, immovable cube in the middle.

Keep it simple

Finally, keep things as simple as possible. This will not only reduce the cost of kitchen renovations, but also make for lighter and airier designs as well.
