Safety is a big issue in NYC kitchen design. The kitchen is the most accident-prone room in the average home. Fires normally originate in this room and so do cuts and burns. This is also the one place in the home where all the food is prepared so taking a few extra safety measures would be in your best interests.

  • Always wash your hands before and after preparing food or having meals. Your hands are in constant contact with all sorts of objects around the city so you never really know what is on them.
  • Once you are finished with a meal, never let it sit out in the open. Place them in proper container and store it in the fridge.
  • Keep your refrigerator at a proper temperature at all times. The standard temperature within a fridge is normally 4 degrees C or below. This temperature will ensure freshness for everything inside.
  • Store everything in the fridge in proper order. Keep meats in the bottom and vegetables in the top. This is because meats may drip and any leakage could effect whatever is below them. It would be best to keep meat in an airtight container.
  • Do not fill up a fridge to the brim. This will hinder proper airflow and will not allow the fridge to work properly putting all the food stored within it into a questionable state.
  • Have a different cutting board for different meats and vegetables. This will prevent cross-contamination.
  • Have a habit of replacing sponges and cleaning cloths on a regular basis. This is to ensure that it does not pass on bacteria to whatever it touches.
